Derek Markham

Derek has been a green blogger for several years, and while he doesn’t consider himself an “environmentalist” (the term is too loaded), he does enjoy writing about environmental issues. He believes strongly in conservation of resources, sustainable food production, alternative energy, and the re-localization movement for strong communities.” He currently writes about these issues as a blogger for Greenopolis.

To live a green lifestyle Derek focuses on buying in bulk to reduce packaging waste, his family purchases only organically grown food (and locally sourced when possible), they grow their own food, and they recycled and compost anything that they can. “Our trash can is mostly empty each week. I also drive only when I have to, and prefer traveling by bike. Though my circle of friends needs no help in going green, I share what I know with others through the writing on my own blogs and also by using Twitter, Facebook, and other social media tools to curate and share relevant links with my network.”

Derek is excited to be a part of the Greenoplis team, which he says is “working to raise awareness about waste to resources issues, and I think that the GreenOps kiosks are a fantastic example of making a difference 'where the rubber meets the road'.”
