Levi Novey is a conservation professional that worked for the U.S. National Park Service for 10 years as a park ranger, social science researcher, and science communication specialist for 20 different parks. He has received a master’s degree in Conservation Social Sciences from the University of Idaho and a bachelor’s degree in History from Tufts University. In addition to having authored several guidebooks to U.S. national parks, he has written scholarly papers and over 150 articles as an environmental journalist. He currently writes for numerous publications and groups including The Huffington Post, Live Oak Media, and Living in Peru. He joins Greenopolis as a blogger. Levi has also taught an undergraduate Environmental Communication Skills course at the University of Idaho, won several photography contests, and regularly enjoys visits to parks, protected areas, historical sites, museums — and just about anywhere where he can learn something new about the world. He recently returned to the U.S. from Peru, where he lived for over 2 years with his wife Alicia and their daughter Coral. To live a green lifestyle, Levi and his family do their best to recycle as much as they can and to make purchases that are as ecologically friendly as they can be. He says, “Since we moved back to the US we began to lease a Toyota Prius. We always give people positive reviews about its financial and environmental benefits to try to inspire them to choose a car considering these advantages. We wash our clothes only using cold water, save electricity, and unplug devices that aren't in use.” They also try to support businesses that adopt sustainable practices. What does Levi think about being part of the Greenopolis team? “You know you are in good company when you work with a team of people who carefully choose positive and interesting environmental stories to tell.”
“Everyone walks in the rain, but some people just get wet.”
