Avatar has nine Oscar nominations and is poised to become the highest-grossing movie of all time, but the film is also contributing to a bit of forward-thinking eco-friendliness - not just in its underlying message, but by recycling the 3-D glasses. In fact, USA Today reports that if all the 3-D glasses, roughly 42.1 million pair, were to be laid end-to-end, they would stretch over 3,987 miles! That is a lot of landfill space. You can help by choosing a local theater that is participating in this recycling program... it's easy! Drop your glasses into a recycling unit as you exit the theater - boxes which can then be shipped back to the facility so glasses can be cleaned, inspected, and then shipped back out to theaters to be used again. Or in some cases the theaters are washing them themselves. In any case, if you are going to see Avatar for the first time, or again, make sure to support a theater that is participating in recycling glasses!

Great film, great message
It's good to see a film with the environmental message of Avatar walk the talk a little. I'd be curious to see what these end up as after the move has run its course- Maybe new theater seats?
