Melissa sure knows how to track down interesting, dedicated people working to conserve this lovely blue green planet. Since we’re focusing on our site, I’ll mention that I’m the longest tenured Greenopolis team member, at the incredible milestone of 2 years - pretty much since the beginning - even before we were named Greenopolis. Greenopolis started up here in New England before it was transplanted to Houston and LA. There are still a couple of Joe's up here in the Northeast on the team, Joe Connolly, who manages digital reporting and partner relationships, and me.
Brought on board for my sustainability background and network of contacts, I’ve worked to build our advisory board, bring content providers to the site, enroll site partners from business, academia and non profits, helped launch our early marketing and outreach efforts at conferences and events, as well as blogged for the site and helped users get their questions and issues addressed. My formal role is now Community Engagement and Development, a little like the Community Desk at a newspaper. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time at joe_laur@greenopolis.com
Rarely have I worked with a team as dedicated, good natured, collaborative and innovative as the team here at Greenopolis. I love my trips to Houston to work faced to face with the team, and we spark each other’s creativity and imagination on our everyday calls and emails as well.
With over 15 years in work with organizations, communities and everyday folks on “sustainability” issues - taking care of the environmental and social pillars we lean on; Greenopolis has huge potential to reach millions of people where they live, play, work and study. We help them to “take the next step” whether it’s recycling s something they’d been tossing out, conserving a meter of rainforest, reducing their energy use(and their energy bills) , or any of the other thousands of small choices we make every day that can improve our recycling, reuse, conservation and waste to resources efforts.
Nature uses everything over and over again: so can we. And the secret here is to make it fun and inviting. We don’t need to be told over and over that the planet’s going to hell in a hand basket; we need solutions that everyday people can practice every day, everywhere. We don’t need guilt tripping and hair shirts to wear; we need innovation so we can meet our needs while supporting all the other life we share this beautiful globe with.
Saving the planet can be fun, celebrating abundance and making a difference, together. It’s all about expanding our horizons, our ideals, and our sense of community. Welcome to this community. We’re glad you are here. Each of us can make a difference. Together, we can make THE difference!
